Johannesburg, Thursday, 15 January 2026 – The Fuels Industry Association of South Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Dumisani Bengu as the new Chairperson of the Board for a two-year term, covering 2026 and 2027.In accepting the role, Bengu expressed gratitude to outgoing Chairperson Seelan Naidoo for his exemplary leadership and stewardship during a period of significant transformation, including the rebranding and transition from the South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA) to the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa.
“Seelan’s efforts have truly shaped our Association into what it is today and guided the rebranding and transition from the South African Petroleum Industry Association to the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa. We are all beneficiaries of his commitment, as we now have an organisation that remains relevant for energy security and sustainability in this era of energy transition,” Bengu said.
Bengu brings to the position more than 25 years of senior leadership experience across sectors including Oil and Gas, Retail, Telecommunications, Financial Services, Customer Strategy, Operations and Convenience Retailing. He currently serves as Senior Vice President for Downstream Energy Marketing & Sales at Sasol and Managing Director of Sasol Oil (Pty) Ltd, where he oversees downstream liquid fuels, Natural Gas and Methane Rich Gas transmission, distribution and sales.
His leadership credentials include service on multiple boards, including the Fuels Industry Association of South Africa, Sasol Oil (Pty) Ltd, Petromoc e Sasol SA (PeSS) Limited in Mozambique, and the Natref Refinery joint venture between Sasol and Prax SA.
Looking ahead, Bengu outlined a leadership vision grounded in engagement and purposeful partnership.
“The strength of this Association lies in its people and relationships. My focus for my term is engagement. Our voice becomes even more powerful when our entire membership is engaged and participating at every level. I am committed to demonstrating the value of our Association to every single member and stakeholder.”
Under his leadership, the Association will prioritise energy security and sustainability; rebuilding local refinery and industrial capacity; strengthening advocacy and regulatory influence through effective storytelling; modernising industry practices; and addressing emerging challenges to ensure long-term resilience and relevance.
“We owe it to our forebears and to those we serve in this industry to deliver. Failure is not an option. Let us move forward united in our purpose and work together to achieve greatness,” he concluded.
